Little Tikes Play House Makeover

We bought this Little Tikes play house at a yard sale for $20. We've had it for almost a year now but since warmer weather is finally here I decided it needed a little sprucing up. I googled "Spray Painting Little Tikes Toys" one night and this took me to several images of Little Tikes toys and play equipment that had been painted in brighter colors. (I even found a "Pimp My Cozy Coupe" section. Oh yes I did. And there are some hilarious coupe makeovers.)

Anyway, most everyone who tried this and succeeded used Krylon Fusion Spray Paint from Walmart. The can (pictured above) claims that it will adhere to plastic and even has a picture of a Little Tikes-looking house on the front. I went to WalMart and bought 3 colors - blue, red and a khaki brown. I wanted to keep the general colors (fresh coat of khaki on the sides, brighter red for the brick front) but knew I would change the roof and door to blue.

And what do you know? A success! You can see how much brighter the red showed up in this photo.

I took the entire play house apart (which really only involved unscrewing about 8 screws from the roof and a small table on the inside to get 2 sides to come apart; everything else was a sort of tongue-and-groove type fit. I did use a drill.) After all the pieces were separated I hosed them down on a sunny day and let them dry. Many people used soap and wash rags and scrubbed them. I didn't have time so I just washed off the pollen and dust and cobwebs and left it at that. I let them dry in the sun then moved them to the garage to paint them.

This paint covers so well and goes on super smooth and easy. I did 2 coats on each piece and I didn't even worry about painting the inside walls. I did paint both sides of the door. I bought 2 cans of each spray paint and that was plenty. I was really impressed with how well it adhered to the plastic - no bubbling or running whatsoever. So a thumbs up to the paint, for sure!

Here's the finished product. Now you'd think with everyone doing these makeovers, Little Tikes would start making things in some cuter (and brighter) colors! Amen??

Let me know if you ever decide to paint any of these toys. I'd love to see the finished product!
