It's no surprise that fall is my favorite time of year. I'm an October baby and so I've always loved everything that this season brings - pops of my favorite colors, crisp mornings and evenings, less HEAT!, pumpkins, soups, football, campfires, costumes, hayrides and everything in between. I love it all and if I could have it year 'round, I'd take it. No doubt about it. Fall is my favorite time to decorate the house too. Here's a few things we've done to welcome our favorite time of year. Our entryway is a split level but we do have this small area on the landing. We store the kids' shoes in this piece of furniture so it serves as the perfect entryway piece. For an added fall touch, I wrapped my hurricane vase in some wide burlap ribbon and put some fall stems inside (with water, of course, to make them look real. Who has time for real plants? Not this girl.) I added some of our little pumpkins and my pumpkin man (a gift from Mom a few years back). My favorite place to purchase the fake floral stems is Old Time Pottery. Super selection and super low prices. They even beat the Walmarts. I also made a small garden flag for the front yard out of polkadot burlap (Hobby Lobby) and sewed a quick "M" to the front with a straight stitch.
Before I decorated the porch for fall, we were sporting our elephant door hanger. I bought this at a shop in town called Shoppe Serendipity for $15 and added the "Roll Tide" using my vinyl cutting machine.
And while we're talking elephants, this banner hangs on our piano on football Saturdays. :)
Here are the fall porch decorations...
We already had the pre-lit topiaries (which I bought on clearance 2 Christmases ago at Lowes.) I decided to just keep them up year round because they're pretty easy to decorate.
I used lime green burlap ribbon (Michael's) and wrapped it around the tree parts like garland. I bought tiny styrofoam pumpkins and berry stems from Old Time Pottery to fill the bottom of the pots, and also added some white vinyl polkadots. The pumpkins are FAKE (yes, I said it) and are from Michael's as well. I used vinyl to decorate one of them and I may let the littles decorate the other ones with some vinyl faces if we get around to it.
The wreath is just a plain grapevine wreath from the craft store, adorned with some fake flowers, some ribbon and I used a rubber band to secure the HUGE and HEAVY "M" that I bought from this site and painted orange. I may add some dots or stripes to our initial at some point. You know I love to change things up
Moving inside... here's the fall mantle!
And you can never have too many fall magazines. I never buy magazines until fall.
And then I buy ALL OF THE MAGAZINES. ALL OF THEM.
The chalkboard in the kitchen holds our "Fall Fun List" as well as a tree that took waytoolongtodraw.
I should have been cleaning my kitchen. This is my problem. There is no cure.
And it's not fall without an ample supply of candy corn or fall-colored M&Ms.
(Not pictured: Fall Colored M&Ms. Thanks to a young black dog who ate all 54 of them in the middle of the night. That is why this candy dish is now up here on the bar instead of on the table beside the couch.)
And the kids' hallway is always decked out in their fall artwork - apples, trees, squirrels, pumpkins, and this year community helpers. :)
Now, let me end by showing you a picture of what my living room looked like on the day I took most of these pictures. Let's not all go to thinking that Haley's house is all clean and put together, because clearly we need an intervention. :)
Happy Fall everyone!
