Rewind: Thanksgiving, Black Friday at the KMarts, and Compound Fun.

Realized last night I forgot to post about our fun Thanksgiving weekend. We headed up to Florence on Wednesday; Dad had already taken the big kids on Tuesday so it was just Chad, Emma Kate and myself; luckily traffic wasn't too bad and we made it safely on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

On Thursday we were able to just play and eat and be.
Thankful for that.

We played in the leaves at Grandaddy's house and in the tree house/fort at Mimi's house,

and as I mentioned in an earlier post, we went sledding.
No you do not need snow for sledding. Not at the compound.
You do need a powered vehicle and a decent rope.
You don't even need a sled - if you've ever experienced a snowy day at the Compound you know that a tarp or even an upside down turtle shell from a Little Tikes sandbox will do just fine. :)
We were lucky to have an actual sled. Fun times.

I introduced Sam to some acorns and when I mentioned that some of them had lost their hats, my little buddy went to town trying to find every 'naked' nut an acorn hat. Bless. Love that he loves things like this; he will spend an hour putting things together or taking them apart.
And I love these dirty little boy hands and sweet fingers. And the toes below. :)

We ate with the whole clan that night at my grandparents' house and it was divine as usual. So thankful for everything we've been so richly blessed with - family, health, food, our homes - I know I don't realize how much I take it all for granted. But I do know that I am blessed, and being with the family, no matter what time of year, always makes me thankful.

If you are looking closely at the turkey shirts I made for the girls, you are probably saying, "She totally forgot to sew those appliques on." Well, no I didn't. I don't sew on turkey appliques... just iron them on then rip them back off and use the shirt for a new, more permanent applique. (I would have sewed them had they been Walmart shirts but these were the only ones I had on hand and they were thicker, nicer shirts, so I couldn't bear to sew it knowing they'd only wear them once.)

Later that night, after seeing countless posts on our news feeds about black Friday shopping, Mom and I decided we'd go and see what all the fuss was about. So we leave at 10pm because Target it opening and we're like, "Heck, we can go to Target, no problem."
Um, problem.
Can't even get into the parking lot.
Why?
Not because of Target.
But because there is a line of about 50 cars waiting to go thru the ARBY'S DRIVE THRU.

Seriously, people.
Yall know yall ALL just ate you a big ol' spread at Grandma's house - turkey, dressing, the works -
and now you tell me that because Arby's is the ONLY place open on Thanksgiving that you are all of a sudden just STARVING for a Beef N Cheddar combo???
This is why they call it Black Friday. Because it makes people go crazy. Nuts crazy.
So out of the Target parking lot we went. It only took about 30 minutes.

Now, before I go further, can I just interest you in some of the sales that were going on for Black Friday? I know most of you saw these on my Instagram feed, but if not, please enjoy these photos:

The Hershey Kiss Pendant necklace. Notice regular price of $275.

The poinsettia sweater vest over the long sleeved poinsettia graphic tee.
No offense if you already own this outfit; but something about the model and this outfit just do not mix.

And I have my friend Courtney to thank for this one. I have no words.
Except for my friend Tesney's comment when she saw this ad:
"I'd like to see the team logo spread across a size 18 short, please."
I am laughing out loud right now.

Certifiably. Nuts. Crazy. I'm telling you.

Soooo... carrying on...
We decided to venture to the K-Marts instead. Yes I said The K-Marts.
Where good times start.

We went in not knowing what was on sale or if it would even be worth it.
We did find some good deals on a few toys and pajamas for the kids, but that's pretty much it.
We did do some people watching. And some laughing.
The conversations we overheard were nothing short of hysterical.

"Mama, should I get these fer the kids?"
"Well, Tisha, you gotta think on it like 'is: These is 3 dollars a piece.
IS YE KIDS GONNA WAR 'EM?"
(war = wear)

Or, over in the home section:
(All from the same lady; all of them YELLED into her cell phone. All of them HEARD by both Mom AND myself even though we were each on opposite sides of the store):

"OK SISSY, I HAVE LOCATED THE BED SHEETS. I REPEAT, I HAVE LOCATED THE BEDSHEETS. 400 THREAD COUNT, EGYPTIAN COTTON, AND THEY ARE $39.99...

THEY WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STORE! YOU MUSTA MISSED 'EM...

YOU'RE WHERE??? WHADAYOO MEAN 19-DOLLAR BOOTS?? I THOUGHT THEY DIDNT EVEN OPEN TIL MIDNIGHT!!! $#%*#(&%#!!!!

Needless to say it was enough to make your head hurt.
And mine was hurting so bad I needed to leave after ten minutes. But I couldn't because I had some toys to buy and the checkout lines were backed up halfway to the back of the store. So I just marched on up to the cooler, grabbed me a 20-ounce Diet Coke and a box of Little Debbie Christmas trees and continued shopping while I had me a snack, yes sir I did.

We let the lines die down for a while and looked for hilarious gag gifts. Like these:

The chocolate sampler that was the size of a coffee table.

The Mickey Mouse adult onesie pajamas. ON SALE!!!!

And perhaps the scariest of all deals, the 3 baby dolls that were lined up together and bore a very scary resemblance to my children.
Yikes.

I did not buy the baby dolls.
But at that point I'd seen enough so we headed to the checkout line. Which was still a mile long.
Another funny thing to me were people at the back of the check-out lines who were willing to wait in a 30-minute line with only TWO things in their shopping carts: a large tin bucket full of popcorn and a stuffed animal. I'm like, REALLY?? Oh well. To each his own.

And just when I thought the funny stuff was over, here comes Grandpa with his shopping buggy behind us in line. He'd been behind us the whole time, but I had not looked at his purchases.
As I was paying I glanced over and realized he was buying 20 boxes of Rice Krispy Treats and 4 cans of Cheez-Whiz. NO JOKE.

He lined them up meticulously on the checkout counter and as the cashier was counting them, he proceeds to tell her: "These are 2 for $4."
Hate to break it to ya, Gramps, but that ain't no Black Friday deal.
They are $2/box every day. In every store. Across America.
I'm hoping he got some decent sleep and didn't get in trouble for being out too late.

Bless.

Well, that about sums up this post.
I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving with your families and scored some killer black Friday deals.
Like Cheez Whiz.

Happy December!
blessed signature
