Notice the tear under that right eye. Bless.
I was so pleased with the doctor. She was so sweet and took her time with us and explained everything from what makes us allergic to stuff to what we can do about it, and everything in between.
I knew Sam was allergic to peas - they have caused him coughing fits and a rash since he tried the baby food. But he's also had sporadic coughing fits at restaurants and his skin is pretty dry too, with patches of eczema on his back, chest and ears. He's gotten to where he will say "Ihhhhh!" for "itch" and bring my hand to whatever is itching so I can scratch it for him. So I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
I have no experience with allergists or allergy testing at all, but my poor little man! He received 15 pricks total (which I know is probably nothing compared to lots of kids, so I'm thankful). The large whelp on the right side is a control test, and from what I understand, the whelp on the left is the positive result for peas. He is definitely allergic to all kinds of peas. We also found that he has a general sensitivity to the legume family, with the exception of peanuts (isn't that crazy?). So for now we'll stay away from beans and peas for sure. He was tested for environmental allergens as well, and the more common ones like soy and dairy, all of which were negative. So thankful for that. As far as his skin goes, the doc recommended only using Aveeno Baby products with a generous Aveeno lotion lather-up after his bath each night. So hopefully this will get his skin looking better and he won't be so itchy!
You were a brave boy today, Sam, and I'm so proud of you.
