Happy 4 Months to Sam
Sam was 4 months old on Saturday, October 2nd...
At his 4-month checkup; he weighed 16 lbs and 12 oz, and was 27 1/4 inches long, putting him in the 90th percentile for weight and off the charts for height. Dr. A says he is the size of an average 8 month old. Ha!
I always say that 4 months is my favorite age for a 0-6 month old, and then afterwards EVERY age is my favorite. But the last month has been a good one for us. It seems that right around the 3 month mark, newborns suddenly turn into real human beings. They start smiling a lot more, laughing, getting into a somewhat predictable routine, sleeping better, spitting up less (although in our case only slightly less), and they become a lot more interested in every day life instead of just when the next meal is coming!
Sam has been "talking" a lot more instead of just the random "coo" here and there; he'll lay in his swing and just say "Ohhh" over and over again. He loves it when you say, "Saaaaammmm Morgan!" and "Rollllll Tide!" and he's ticklish all over. His expressions melt my heart and I kiss him all day long. He started swatting at toys right around 3 months and right at 3.5 months he started actually grabbing at things and becoming more coordinated. The first thing he ever reached for and actually grabbed was a Reese's pumpkin. Go figure. I only ate 853 Reese's eggs while he was in utero.
He hates being on his stomach unless he is propped on the boppy or up on his elbows but he's starting to do better. He usually sleeps 11-12 hours at night and he has the biggest smile when I go to get him out of his crib in the mornings. He loves toys that have that crackly sound, as well as anything with bright colors, but he'll try to grab just about anything that's held in front of his face. He does not like the paci but rather prefers his thumb, which is so cute and much more convenient. :) He cries if he's eating and he hears Mary Ella talking too loud; almost like she's disturbing the peace or something. He definitely prefers a low stimulus atmosphere, and somehow his sister just doesn't understand that. Ha... He loves the bathtub and must be bathed in the big bathtub now because he likes to kick his feet like a wild man and water goes everywhere. He wears mostly 6-9m clothes but can still fit into some 3m outfits too, depending on the brand. He has a VERY long torso so it's hard to find clothes that fit just right. He wears size 3 diapers.
Up until his checkup, he'd been eating every 3-3.5 hours during the day, usually around 6 oz per feeding if I was measuring; most of the time I just nurse him so I never know. He no longer requires a rice bottle at night to sleep so that's a good thing. After our checkup I started him on a 4-hour schedule, so currently he is eating 4 times a day, with solids added at 2 of those feedings. He's done surprisingly well with the baby food and hasn't made any crazy faces or anything; seems to enjoy sweet potatoes and fruit the best though.
Well, that's about all I can think of at this point! I'll come back and add more later if I think of anything!
