Mary Ella is a bit under the weather.
Last night she wouldn't eat her dinner and then refused a popsicle, so I knew something was definitely wrong. She felt warm to me, but at first I figured it was because we'd been out in the sun. She played hard in the yard yesterday afternoon, watering plants, swimming in her pool, throwing ball with Lucy... but when I took her temperature it was 101.3. Boo. She never runs a fever, even with ear infections, so she felt pretty cruddy. I gave her some Tylenol and we went to bed. She slept with us, and around 1am I woke up because I'd touched Mary Ella accidentally and she felt like she was on fire. I took her temperature again. 102.8. So this time we took Motrin. And I fell asleep and then at 7am she was hot again. This time it was 103.5. Well at this point I started getting worried and I called the pediatrician's office. They gave me an 11:30 appointment but when they called back at 8am and said they'd had an 8:30 cancellation, I jumped in the car, no makeup, wet hair, glasses and all, and we sped off to see Dr. A. Mary Ella was in her PJ's and a diaper. And her hair looked something like this...
I'm sure I looked even worse, but hey, this is what we do for our kiddos.
After 2 HOURS of random tests (strep, urine, bloodwork), everything was negative so the conclusion is a fever virus, most likely having something to do with her throat, although it is not strep. Dr. A checked her throat and said it was super red and irritated. Her ears were perfectly clear. They are doing overnight blood/urine cultures just to be sure. She spiked again at 102.8 when we got home, and is now in bed sleeping the afternoon away. I'm hoping she will kick this so that she can have a fun Saturday hanging with her Daddy.
My mom and sisters are heading down here tonight and my precious friends are giving me a baby shower in the morning. I can't wait!
