Prayer Request

Hey Everyone - Please be praying for my neighbors down the street, Mike and Bevin Yeskavier. Yesterday they lost their 3 month old baby girl, Caroline. She died in her sleep at her caregiver's house; it was her mother's first week back to work since her baby was born. The family desperately needs our prayers. Mary Ella and I had just met this baby earlier this week when we had gone down the street for a walk. Her parents had her bundled up and were pushing her in an antique pram (carriage stroller) that had belonged to her grandmother. They were so proud of her and they had their camera and were taking pictures of her first stroll. I can't imagine what they are going through. I've been sick to my stomach since hearing about this. Please lift them up and pray that God will be glorified in this situation.

I love my Daddy because...

He takes me on walks...

He dances with me during the Miss America pageant...

He helps me brush my teeth...

He gives me goodnight kisses...

He helps me say my prayers at night

He helps to tuck me in...

I love you, Daddy.

Sickness, Sickness, Go AWAY

Well, I'm pretty sure my Target pharmacist is giving us strawberry-flavored juice instead of our prescribed antibiotics. Why? Because Mary Ella, once again, is sick. Let us recap...

Wednesday, December 31st -
Doctor's visit for cough and runny nose.
Diagnosis: Minor ear infection, left ear
Treatment: Amoxicillin for infection, Motrin/Tylenol in case of fever.
Result: Unbelievably happy baby with no apparent illness or infection

Wednesday, January 14th -
Doctor's visit for 6 month checkup and a recheck of our ears -
NO symptoms whatsoever. A happy baby with no cough, runny nose, ANYTHING.
Diagnosis: DOUBLE ear infection
Treatment: Omnicef (stronger antibiotic) for 10 days
Result: Happy baby, no fevers, nothing.

Sunday, January 25th - (only 3 days after finishing the 2nd antibiotic)
Baby has runny nose, warm pink cheeks, coughing like a seal, and temp of 100.0.
Treatment: Rest, fluids, Motrin, Zyrtec (and I did put in a call to the pediatrician for good measure, but I am not going back there unless I absolutely have to!)

What gives?

Recent Netflix Viewings

1. The Shop Around the Corner This is such a GREAT movie! I decided to rent some older movies and this one has been my favorite so far. It's black and white, made in 1940 actually, and it is the movie that inspired "You've Got Mail." The star is James Stewart, so you can't beat that! (He is George Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life.") A short sweet love story. Can't beat it!

2. A Star is Born I love Judy Garland so I thought I would try this one out too. Unfortunately I never finished it. It was good, and funny at times, I guess, but I could never get through it. So I guess this get a bad review from me. I hear it's a good flick, but I'll never know.

3. Hancock I have to say that I was really disappointed with this movie. I think because the previews make it out to be a really funny, super-hero-gone-awry movie. And the movie starts out that way, so I was pleased with the first half and laughing my head off. But then it just goes down hill and gets weird and dramatic and sad. I don't know. I didn't like it. I think if the previews had been different, maybe my opinion would be also.

6 Month Check-Up

We went to the doctor last week and Mary Ella weighed 19 pounds, 4 ounces. She was 27 inches long. This puts her in the 90th percentile!

Unfortunately this checkup was also a re-check for the minor ear infection that she'd been diagnosed with 2 weeks prior. Well, at this visit we had DOUBLE ear infections. So apparently the Amoxicillin didn't work at all. We are now on Omnicef and it is supposed to be stronger. So here's hoping! The good thing is that she is not feeling bad at all! She hasn't had a cough, runny nose, fever, anything. So I was totally surprised to see that she wasn't over her infection. Oh well.

We also received 4 shots including the first dose of her flu shot. She'll get the next dose in a month. Hopefully these ears will be healthy by then!

OH! And she is now saying "Da-da!" It's so cute! She just started this Thursday of last week. I don't think she really associates the word with Chad (of course Chad says the opposite) but either way, she says it when we tell her to! It's precious.

Tagged...

Martina has passed the Fabulous Blog Award on to me. I am supposed to name 5 of my addictions and then tag some friends!

1. Mary Ella (I copied this from Martina...but it's true!) I love, love, love having a daughter. I love playing with her, reading, singing, watching her splash in the bathtub, and seeing her change overnight. There is nothing like being a mommy.

2. Blogs and Cool Websites. I love checking up on everyone's lives and seeing new pictures, especially of other new moms and their little ones. It's fun to watch these babies grow up! I also love any type of design/craft/cooking/decorating blog.

3. Food Network. I leave the TV on this channel all day long. Even if I am not in the room, I leave it on and watch bits and pieces throughout the day. My favorites are Barefoot Contessa, Giada and the Neely's! I love to cook and try out new recipes!

4. Organizing. I have been on an organizing kick since the holidays ended. I have spent most of the last few weeks taking on new organization projects. First I organized all of our fall & holiday decor and bought color-coated bins, which I labeled6, then stored all the bins in the attic. Then I completely gutted our closets, gave away clothes we could no longer wear or didn't need, and re-organized them so that they are neat and easy to keep that way. Then this past week my Dad helped me clean out my garage, which took about 8 hours total. I also managed to clean out, de-clutter and reorganize all drawers in the house, as well as clean out our basement/playroom and make it functional... YES! That's 2 resolutions I can check off my list!

5. Guiltless Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches. These are addicting, but very low in sugar/fat if you crave sweets and are trying to drop a few pounds. Just take the chocolate graham crackers and some sugar-free Cool Whip, make little sandwiches, and put them in the freezer! They are SOOOO good!

I tag Ashley Johnson, Katie Lassiter, Lisa Highfield, Amanda Smith and Julie Young!

6 Months Old

Are you kidding me? That's half a year! I know I say it every time, but WHERE did the last 6 months go? Seriously. Time seriously flies even faster when you have a child. She is half a year old, which means I only have 17 1/2 years left with her! That is crazy. I have learned so much about myself, about my husband, and about my own parents in the last 6 months. So much about this impossible love called motherhood. It has been such a wonderful and exciting time in my life. I look forward to doing it all over again, I really do.

So my little cuddle bug is 6 months old. She weighs 18 lbs 8 oz. (I know this because we went to the doctor last week for her cold.) Not sure about her length, they didn't measure that last week... I'll find out next week at her 6-month checkup. I don't know about everyone else, but I feel like these babies change SO MUCH between 5 and 8 months... they go through growth and developmental spurts and learn so many new tricks and their personalities begin to shine through even more. It's fun watching Mary Ella discover new things and change overnight, literally.
At 6 months old, she is still at what I will forever call my favorite age, because she is content playing on a quilt or in her exersaucer, but she can't go anywhere. So I can still wash dishes or fold laundry and not worry about her crawling out of sight. I fear that will change all too soon. She is sitting up fairly well, although she's taken some pretty hard falls! She'll get better at it as time goes by. We are practicing her sitting up every day and she has come a long way in 2 weeks. She gets frustrated after a while and just wants in her Bumbo chair. She loves the Bumbo now because she has a tray and can play with her toys while sitting in it. Playing with her toys involves picking them up one at a time, bringing them to her mouth, banging them on the tray 1 or 2 times, then knocking/throwing them all off the tray. So I am usually in the floor with her to keep her entertained. She loves all kinds of toys now, especially ones with buttons and lights and music, and she absolutely LOVES her Sing Stage that Santa brought. She also seems to like her baby dolls, I think because they have that "cabbage patch" smell - I love that smell! She just holds them close to her face. It's really sweet.
Her tricks include rolling over both ways, patting, drooling, knocking 8 toys off her tray with one swipe, bringing her toes up to her head, and diving head first into her bathwater as I try to hold her in a sitting position. I should seriously take some video footage of the last one.
She has 2 teeth coming in on her bottom gums and they've been visible since Christmas day. One is coming in a little faster than the other. She bites and gums everything she can get her hands on. The first couple weeks of teething were NOT fun but it's getting better as she is getting used to it I guess. She is eating well and still enjoying all the solid foods. So far I can't really distinguish her "favorites" but she seems to really gobble up the homemade squash. She also likes drinking water from Mommy's cup like a big girl. She is still nursing 4 times a day and sleeping 10-12 hours at night. She takes 2 naps during the day too, so that's nice. I hope that lasts a while!
Praise God for healthy, thriving babies. I am so, so, thankful and blessed. I look forward to the rest of 2009!

This year's resolutions

1. Lose 30 lbs by June 1st.
2. Grow my hair out long again so I can wear it curly and not have a fro.
3. Keep the house clean, keep the laundry from piling up.
4. Be more organized.
5. Continue saving money so I don't have to go back to work.
6. Give more.
7. Get my garage cleaned out.
8. Finish the downstairs playroom and make it a functional space to live, entertain and play.
9. Run a 5K.
10. Learn to sew.

Last year's resolutions

Last year's resolutions:
1. Eat more fruits and vegetables. I did this successfully, mainly because I knew the baby needed the nutrients. And I am still doing this, so it kind of became a habit... which I guess is good.
2. Play with Lucy more. I did this too, mainly because it was an excuse to get out and walk/run, but I need to make this more of a priority this year.
3. Keep up with my laundry. YES! CHECK! DONE! I now have a "system," thanks to my good friend Jamie, of household chores and laundry schedule. It has saved my life! I do Chad's on Sunday, mine & Mary Ella's on Mon, another M.E. load on Thursday, and towels on Friday. It is perfect.
4. Sell the house before the baby gets here. CHECK. THANK THE LORD.
5. Beat Guitar Hero III before my husband does. That would be a NEGATIVE. He stayed up all night one night and beat it. Boo.
6. Get my closets organized and all my old clothes/junk thrown away. CHECK. Except for the fact that I did all of this "cleaning out" during March/April when I was 6 months pregnant... I guess I thought I would just be fat and pregnant forever because I THREW AWAY all my NON-PREGGERS winter clothes, and now I have NOTHING TO WEAR. And no money to buy anything. So moral of the story? You won't be fat forever, no matter how fat the pregnancy makes you feel. So SAVE YOUR SKINNY JEANS!
7. Become a sushi expert like my friend Staci. NO, not so much. I just haven't had the craving or the stomach for it... but I would still like to learn and taste.
8. Find time to play piano and sing. Ummm, not really. I am over singing. I just totally lost my singing voice when I got pregnant and that makes me sad. And I can barely play "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on the piano much less read any of my old music. Which also makes me very sad. I need a piano of my own.

Well, I guess I did good, overall. I need to come up with some good ones for this year. I tried to nominate myself for "What Not to Wear" on TLC.com but they are only taking applicants from select cities. That's unfair. I could really use $5000 for a new wardrobe.
